THE OLD WOMAN WHO LOST HER DUMPLING

A long time ago, there was a funny old woman who always laugh and loved to make dumplings of rice-flour. One day, the dumpling fell into the hole in her kitchen. She was trying to catch the dumpling, but she also fell into the hole. She fell quite a distance, but the old woman did not get hurt. She fell into another county that full with rice field. On the road, she met the stone Fizo and she asked about her dumpling. The first Fizo said her dumpling was rolling away, but he did not recommended the old woman to go any further because there was a witch who eats people. But, the old woman still walking and crying to find her dumpling. Then, she saw the second Fizo and asked the same question. The Fizo answered with the same answer. However, the old woman did not listen to what the Fizo has said. She kept walking until she made the third Fizo. Unfortunately, she made the witch that eats people. The Fizo asked the old funny woman to hide behind the Fizo’s sleeves. The Oni cannot ignore the smell of humankind. Then, Oni recognized the present of the old funny woman because she laughed. The Oni asked the old funny woman to go to his house across the river. The Oni promised to the Fizo not to eat the old funny woman, he only wanted to asked the old funny woman to worked for him everyday. Arriving at home, the Oni told the old woman to cook the rice by only putting one grain and she had to stir it with the magic paddle. Magically, the one grain became much as she stirred the magic paddle. The old funny woman did not get sick or tired of working with the Oni. She only felt lonely staying there and she missed her house and her dumplings very much. Finally, she could escaped from the house by taking the magic paddle which could help to cross the river.

Kato did not want to join the adventure in the river with Vikki because he was afraid. After Vikki convinced him, he wanted to join Vikki.

  1. How are you different from one of the characters? Explain.

Vikki is the squirrel who only say something but cannot do anything. And Kato is the good squirrel.

  1. If you could trade places with one of the characters which one would it be, and why?

I want to be Kato although he was afraid at the first time. But after he tried the things, he could be the brave squirrel.

  1. Was there a character you didn’t like? Why didn’t you like this character?

  1. What was the theme or the author’s message? What events helped you figure out the message?

The author try to say that we may not be a talk big person.

  1. Would you like to read something else by this author? Why or why not?

Yes because I like the design of the book. It is very suitable for kids because kids do not really like to read the book with full text. They will prefer to read the book with more pictures after the words.

  1. How might the story be different if it had happened somewhere else (or in a different time period)?

The story might be different if Kato did not accept Vikki’s invitation. He might not fell into the river.

  1. If you had been the main character in the story, would you have acted differently? Explain why or how.

Yes, because it is only an acting in a story

  1. How did you feel about this story? Would you recommend it to someone else? Why or why not

I like the story, especially if you read it to the children. It can teach them much about life.

  1. What do you think was the best part of the story? Why?

I like the part when Kato say that it was the great adventure because it shows that the bad thing is not really bad. There must be something nice beyond the bad.

I have read the book titled ‘The Boat Ride’ by Herminder Ohri. The content and the design of the book is very nice. It is suitable for kids because each page has its own picture based on the story. It is not only pictures as the design of the book but it relates to the story. As we know, children cannot read the story with full text on the page. They should have been helped by the illustration to help them imagine the situation of the story. They can understand the story easier after reading the story and looking to the pictures.

When reading the children’s book, it is more interesting with the picture on each page. We can also imagine what is happening in the story by seeing the pictures. Because of that interesting way in telling the story, the reader can feel more relax and enjoy in reading the book. However, the previous materials, how-to articles and news, are more boring. Not every people can read it because it is full with words without much illustration like the children’s book has. Although I can find the pictures on how-to articles and new, but it has different sense in reading it. The news and articles cannot create our imagination when reading it.

By reading the children’s book, we can pretend to be a child at that time. We can have the same feeling when reading the book as we were children. Then, the other reason is to know the background of the children in this year because for each period of time has different background. The story is made based on the current conditions of the year. The writers write the story based on what is currently happen in their life.

The synopsis of A Pocket of Biscuits

There are six events that build up the story until the end. The first and the second events are related to each other. They only differ from the setting. The story began at night on the airport where the woman was waiting for her flight. Because of her boredom, she went to the airport shop to buy a book and a pocket of biscuits. The next event is when the woman went to the toilet and sat down to read her book. While reading the book, a man came and sat beside her and ate the biscuits. The third event becomes the rising action of the story because the woman started to get infuriated with the man’s action of eating the biscuits. The climax happened when the man still ate the biscuits until the last biscuits. The fifth event, the falling action, is when the woman realized that her biscuits were still in her bag. It was untouched and unopened. At the end of the story, the woman felt very sorry and very ashamed about what had happened. She had accused the man as the biscuit thief.

We can see that the theme of the story is a misjudgment. The woman misjudged the man for being a thief because the man ate her biscuits. However, the man did not eat her biscuits, he ate his own biscuits. I can see this moment happened in my life. This semester, my friend accused me of not doing our group’s task because I did not print it out. However, the fact is she never told me to print our task. I have tried to talk to her about the truth and said sorry, but she did not want to admit that she was wrong even though I have given the print out to her. I do not know when she will forgive me and realize her mistakes and not judge me for a lazy friend.

How to differentiate the types of cake that every baker should know

A non-baker person may only know a cake, only one type of cake. He does not know that the cakes that he ate are different. However, a baker knows that there are many types of cakes. When he tastes the cake, he immediately knows what type of cake that he eats. So, it provides some types of cakes that help you in differentiating the cake that you eat and ou want to make.
1. Shortened cake
Shortened cake also called butter cake. It includes all cakes that use much butter. It has a high amount of butter or fat, and it makes the gluten strands. The shorter gluten create the tender and soft cake.
a. Layer cake
It has three ways in making this type of cake. First, by whipping the butter with sugar before mixing it with other wet and dry ingredient. Second, by mixing all ingredients without special creaming method. Last, by whipping the egg whites separately and pour the other ingredient before pour it to the baking pan. All of these ways make the cake has the light texture.
b. Pound cake
It has the balance amount of the ingredients (butter, eggs, sugar, flour). It makes the cake has the dense texture. It is suitable for cake decorating projects because it will still have the same shape even when the buttercream is added to the cake.
2. Foam and sponge cakes
Air is bitten to the eggs (sometimes the egg whites only, sometimes the egg whites and the yolks). The eggs are whipped until it creates the soft peak. This method will make the cake rise during the baking process.
3. Flourless cake
Primarily it almost has the same techniques with sponge cakes which uses the eggs to lift the cake. However, it also has the different character with the sponge cake. The chocolate cake, for example, it uses more chocolate mixture than the flour. It only uses around ¼ cup of flour. It uses other ingredients that function almost the same as the flour, for example, ground nuts, chocolate.
4. Unbaked cake
This cake does not need the baking process. It usually being applied to the dessert like cheese cake, ice cream cake.

Should Students Wear School Uniform

In Indonesia, we often see the students wear school uniform. We can see different school uniform of each school. Sometimes, the school uniform’s style is differentiating the level of the school. Most of high-level schools have a stylist school uniform. However, at some countries, the students do not wear school uniform. They just use their own clothes. Some people agree and disagree about wearing school uniform.

People who agree with wearing school uniform say that students who wear school uniform look like the educated people. As we see the people on the street wearing a casual clothes, we may think that they are not a student. On the other side, if we see a girl wears a school uniform, we must say that the girl is a student and she must be smart. Some people are proud if they know that the other people see them as a student, because they are automatically one of the educated people.

The other reason is to decrease discrimination of poor children. We know that now all parents can buy nice clothes for their children. It is because they do not have enough money to buy clothes. On the other hand, it is good for rich children to use their own clothes for school because they have many nice clothes. They can buy anything with their money. So, it is easy to identify which one is the poor students or the rich students. It makes the poor students feel different, and the rich student have a chance to mock the style of the poor student.

In contrast, wearing school uniform just distinguishes the students from other schools. You will look like a community rather than just normal people. If the students walk to public places, it is easy for other people to know your school. The students cannot go to other school when they still wear their school uniform because each school has their own school uniforms. When they go to other school, the students at that school will probably block their way and prohibit the other students come to their school. So, the students cannot go anywhere when they still wear the school uniform.

Should the students wear school uniform or not is not a big deal. It depends on the countries or the school environment. Both rules have advantages and disadvantages. The schools just follow the rules that the government makes.

The Frog’s Life Cycle

We often see the frog everywhere, especially at the bush or pond. Do you know how the frog grow or comes? When we were a child, we thought that a tadpole is a fish in the ditch and we caught it. Have we ever wondered the “fish” that we caught at that time will be a frog someday? We can say that a tadpole is a fish when we were a child because we did not know the life cycle of the frog. Therefore, here is the life cycle of frog that we need to know to make us understand how frog’s life cycle.

The frog’s life starts with the egg. The egg looks like a transparent jelly, which protect the egg, with a black dot inside. The black dot is made of bunch of cells and they will hatch into a tadpole. Actually, there is only single cell in the egg, but then it splits into two cells, then four cells, and so on. After 6-21 days, the egg that has fertilized will hatch into a tadpole. The egg can be found in calm or static water. Not all eggs will hatch into tadpoles because the fish, insects, or other creatures around it in the water are eating some of them.

The lucky egg will hatch into a tadpole. A tadpole life completely in the water at 7 to 10 days after the tadpole has hatched, it will begin to swim around the water and find it own food. It consists of poorly developed gills, a mouth, and a tail. It eats small plants that stick in other plants, which called algae. The tadpole is still vulnerable in this stage, so it must protect itself from the predator by rely on its camouflage.

The tadpole starts to change its body into a tadpole with legs after 5 weeks of development. The body is not too different as before. The differences from a tadpole are the hind legs that has grown and followed by the growing of the forelegs. Then, the lung starts to grow. It means that the tadpole with legs does not need to life in the water all day long, but they can go to the surface of the water and breathe in the air. The tail becomes longer and it has ability to swim around and catch the food. Some of it eats the frog’s eggs and other tadpoles.

By 12 weeks, the tadpole becomes more like an adult frog. Now, it does not have a long tail because the tail becomes smaller. It does not have gills anymore. The lungs have enlarged and almost functioning at this point, so it will soon life on the land and back to the water only to lay the eggs.

After 12 to 16 weeks, the frog has completed the life cycle. The tail has gone, and the young frog becomes an adult frog. The frog mostly life on the land and sometimes in the water, that is why frog is one of the amphibian.

Frog is an amphibian. There are 5 life cycle of frog. The first stage is an egg. The egg will hatch after 6-21 days. Then it becomes a tadpole. Tadpole is frog that only has mouth, gills, and tail that are not developing completely. After it has hind legs and forelegs, it called as a tadpole with legs. Before becoming an adult frog, it must pass a young frog stage that has almost similar body with adult frog but it has a tail. After it loses its tail, it becomes an adult frog.
